Australian Dreaming: Epic Rail Journeys
Australia is well known for epic rail journeys. If you are a train enthusiast, one of these trips would be a memorable part of your Australian adventure.

Indian Pacific
The Indian pacific is the last true trans-continental train journey remaining. This amazing train traverses Australia from coast to coast, between the sparkling waters of the Pacific and Indian Oceans, a distance of 4352 kilometers.

No other journey in the world crosses so many different terrains in one country, from the spectacular Blue Mountains, through the famous green and gold sun belt of Australia, historic Broken Hill, past Australia's first inland outposts and mining towns, through the red outback and across the world's longest length of straight railway track, 478 kilometres through the stark and desolate Nullarbor Plain

The Ghan
A trip aboard the Ghan - one of Australia's most prestigious and luxurious trains - is a pilgrimage and a pleasure. The 908 mile, 20-hour journey from Adelaide to Alice Springs is an artery to the heart of outback wilderness and as of this year it now extends all the way from Alice to Darwin. From early days as a rather irregular service, the legend of the Ghan has evolved into one of the world's most comfortable and impressive rail journeys.

The Ghan is an odd name for a train, but in Australian history it is a living legend to the heart of the continent - Australia's Red Centre. The name was for Afghan, after the camel handlers who were a vital part of the construction crew.
