Australian Dreaming: Tropical Adventures

The northeast coast of Australia is an environmental playground where paradise is found in lush tropical rainforests, on amazing coral reefs, deserted white beaches, sleepy rivers or in accommodation as unique and diverse as the terrain.

Great Barrier Reef
One of the world's great natural wonders, the Great Barrier Reef stretches an amazing 1,200 miles in the tropical waters of Australia's Coral Sea. The only living thing visible from space, up-close the Great Barrier Reef is alive with color and marine life.
More than just a natural wonder, this World Heritage National Park is a world-class vacation destination with a uniquely Australian flavor. From the gateway towns and cities of the Great Barrier Reef, visitors can embark on day trips to cruises out on the Reef, explore the outback, discover the rainforests and relax on tropical beaches.

Rainforests
Between Cairns and Kuranda, a picturesque village on the edge of the Atherton Tableland, is the Skyrail, a magnificent gondola system that glides for 7.5 kilometers over pristine rainforest. You can get off at two stations and wander through a bit of the rainforest before getting on again and completing the trip.

Queensland Islands
Starting in Tropical North Queensland and stretching along the coastline, the calm azure waters between the Great Barrier Reef and the mainland are studded with some 600 tropical islands. Most of these islands are uninhabited and provide the perfect setting for a day of exploring, observing wildlife or simply relaxing on the secluded beaches and coves.
Of the islands that are inhabited, many offer resorts ranging from world-class luxury to budget hideaways. Wide selections of boating options are available, from day trips to chartered bare-boat or crewed yachts. Go diving, snorkeling, parasailing, windsurfing, fishing or play golf.

Butterfly Sanctuary
At Kuranda, the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary is home to over 1500 magnificent tropical butterflies, all local to the area.

Aboriginal Cultural Park
Located next to the Cairns Skyrail terminal, the Tjapukai Aboriginal Culture Park is dedicated to the preservation and the portrayal of Aboriginal culture.
